April (Snow) Showers Welcomes....SUN PLEASE

Well the news of April:

The Oilers made the playoffs and are presently in round 2 beating San Jose and currently playing the Mighty Ducks. Needless to say every second day is hockey hockey hockey (for Mark). I am usually to tense to watch it so I check the score every 15 minutes or so online...

I have finished watching 13 Reasons Why on Netflix...a little mixed on it. Presently watching Series of Unfortunate Events. Plus finished watching Season 5 of Girls from the library and Moana and Allied.

I just did some spring cleaning. Or maybe just regular cleaning but since I hadn't done it in about a month and a half I will call it spring cleaning. I even took apart our dishwasher and cleaned out the filter and the blade. YUCK. Thank goodness for youtube though as it shows you how to do almost anything!:)

Income tax has been completed and filed. Phew. I hate tax season. Usually makes me annoyed with life as the game of life hits me with something. And it kind of did...but then didn't.

Other things that have been going on:

Two pieces of raison toast has greeted me in my rain boots thanks to a little one travelling all over the house eating.

With that travelling, dancing, climbing, singing, adventure seeking little lady we decided to sign her up in SPORTBALL. and why not. this girl loves kicking, throwing, rolling balls. Why wouldn't she love this. Well she was a little overexcited when we took her to her first class last week and spent most of the time running around (and at times attempting to steal other kids balls). Monkey. She did love the popcorn clean up game where you gather all the balls and put them in a basket. She rocked that one. :)

We also had a family filled evening of Raffi and Dairy Queen. Yes that is right. My childhood favourite. Although he didn't sing from my favourite album (the Christmas album). He did not disappoint with Baby Beluga, Brush your teeth, and Bananaphone. Plus the little lady did pretty good, thanks in part to a few snacks, entertainment and the girl behind her that would smile and talk to her.

Another thing I have noticed is she is starting to take a liking to dresses and barrets. Although I don't know if she has the same feelings towards leotards. It's kind of fun as she likes to pick out her clothes every morning.

Lots of park outings. Basically everyday before or after supper Mark takes her in her push car to the playground for a swing on the swings and if she is feeling adventurous sliding down the spiral slide. Whether it is rain or shine she is outside. Loves going out in the backyard in sock feet chasing the dog and "telling" him what is right or wrong.

New words like cracker, and cookie are emerging. HA. And whenever she wants to say something emphatically it is usually No. I don't think she knows what it means exactly as everything seems to be no...even if i asked if she wanted chocolate....she will learn soon enough what that word means! :)

I don't know if I have anymore news. The bees will be coming shortly. Seedlings of squash, tomatoes and garlic have been planted. The greenhouse has a door to keep in more heat. Voles are being captured everyday. Yes Mark is having lots of outdoor fun.

Let's hope we get some May flowers pretty soon!

Springly Things

So it is still kind of winter...and by still i mean an occasional snow fall seems to be emerging every now and again. But spring is a coming. Why? The snow is melting super fast. The sun is out for super long periods of time. The trees are budding. It rains more than snows. AND it's April! :)

So what have we been up to in the last month...

Blokus! So a few weeks ago I went to the tabletop cafe with my besties. We played some pretty cool games like hamsterrolle, cards against humanity, dutch blitz (a fabulous classic that i still love) and blokus. Funnily enough I owned this game. Mark and I got it from his sister's family two years ago! YIKES. Life with a newborn seemed super busy and exhausting that we never did play the game...but since that fateful night at the tabletop....Mark and I haven't been able to put that game away. Although I may need to take a break as I keep losing. CURSES!

The game of life reared it's head once again as I managed to get a ticket and had to enroll into a car seat safety clinic. It's all good in the sense that I should know all this information. But that ticket is nasty. And with all the stuff that happened over the last three months and just a week after my car getting fixed all I could do is let out a big sigh....cause really that is all you can do.

The little gal is sure growing up. Lots of words being said: shoes, hot, socks, coat, cold, apple, nana, water, up and the list continues to grow and grow. She loves her dolls as she takes them to bed, the bath and they seem to be little companions as she plays with her toys. Singing songs like ba ba black sheep, zoom zoom, and the itsy bitsy spider. Really she sings the rhythm more than the words but she does seem to manage the actions too! She loves brushing her teeth, she knows her body parts and is a great little helper unpacking groceries, peeling onions, sweeping, and cleaning up after herself.

Her new adventures are dog walks as she insists on walking yet can't quite do all the distance that we cover so in and out of the stroller, our shoulders or the new (and used) little car we got her. Outdoors is definitely her new love at the moment. Jumping in puddles, throwing rocks, playing in sand/dirt, going to the park and playing with all her different sport balls.

We continue to go to the same places. We have checked out cafe o play again with a mom friend and her little boy. She is definitely getting more out of that place than she did before. We visited a petting zoo and some little play houses at the Mom and Tot's Fair. Been to our fair share of mini gyms and even managed to do a family swim trip to St Albert.

Dinner out x2 for us and pizza in x1. Special kind of awesome this month as I was exceptionally tired of cooking a couple of days and we eat fast and she can now eat restaurant food. I think she liked Boston Pizza over New Asian Village...but like I said....we eat fast.

Mark is busy with his bee making...really the hive making and he discovered his love for the redo centre. I have joined a Quality council at work that I am enjoying. BUSY BUSY BUSY.

In entertainment I have seen some movies: Logan (really good), Manchester by the Sea (too sad for me), The Light Between the Oceans (sad but really good), Trolls (LOVED IT), Girl on the Train (enjoyed) and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (a little blah). I finished the third season of Grace and Frankie (hilarious), have enjoyed Riverdale and just started watching reruns of Road to Avonlea again.

In books I finished a series finally that I started quite awhile ago. The Pittacus Lorre series. Very much a tween book series but light all the same. I am thinking of starting up on L.M.Montgomery again....

Loving the sunshine. Can't wait for all the fun the outdoors has in store for us this month.

Spring has sprung

"Smells so green and skies so blue, Spring has sprung and now, me too!"
K. Guilmartin

We did the unthinkable. Yes, we planted plants prior to the May long weekend.

It started with Mark really. On a January evening he was surfing the internet. I wandered into his midst in my sleep deprived state. "I think I want a greenhouse, I think I am going to build one." I nodded and didn't really think much of it (Did I mention my sleep deprived state).

On a February evening, in another sleep deprived wander, my husband said to me. "I think I am going to build 4 garden boxes for the backyard."

Then March came along and he found some bay windows. "They are going to be for my greenhouse." At this point I think I was getting 4 hour intervals so I had a bit more wakefulness. I paused. Thought how do bay windows make a greenhouse?! He posed a few ideas in his pre-existing garden. I couldn't quite visualize but nodded in agreement.

The end of March neared and the garden boxes were completed and placed in the back.

The first weekend of April came upon us and a greenhouse was built and completed with the assistance of a brother in law, Jimi and neighbours for the heavy lifting. Where? Beside his garden bed. My reaction...impressed very much so.

Soil came in the middle of April...by the truck full. Shovelled in to the boxes. Placed in the greenhouse.

Then the planting began. As the above song says, "It's time for gardening." And the plants grew and grew and grew. The hardier of the seeds were planted in the back and watered with a hosing system in place.

Then this last week more was planted in the back as the greenhouse was just getting to big. So I guess you could say that I had a baby and so did Mark. Mark had multiples raised from from seedlings. How does he do it? ;)

All jesting aside, I then jumped in. I bought some flowers and planted them in the front.

So we wait. We wait for no frost. No snow. Sheets are ready and waiting just in case. So May long weekend surprise us. Be good. Mainly cause I am on my own with seedling babies and our little baby!

The year so far....

July 1. The year is half way over and my blog shows nothing. But really, quite a bit has happened so far in just over 6 months!

I have been working both the rehab and homecare side of my job and loving the variety of what both has to offer. The learning opportunities have been extensive and I am starting to grapple many new things as I grow in my career. I love it so much that I actually don't mind picking up to a full time position that I often do, or fall just one shift behind of that. It has been really nice to love going to work. And for that I am extremely grateful for!

My parents came to visit in March. We had family pics done, went on dog walks, made meals, went to movies and putzed around. Dad was busy studying to be a fireman and has since passed many tests (and has a uniform to boot!) We also went to Vancouver together for my cousins wedding. A little cool at that time but the ceremony was extremely sweet and touching, with planes flying over head as a tribute to the groom.

That was one of 4 wedding/celebrations we had. Next was onto Calgary to celebrate Mark's cousins nuptials. Exposure to a different cultural celebration was quite fun and educational for myself as I was googling things long into the night after the wedding. Once in Calgary we had to see my Great Aunt Elizabeth and cousins Joanne and Greg. We talked about their upcoming trip to New York where they happen to be right now!

The other two weddings were a little more informal but just as fantastic and fun as we were not present for both couple's nuptials but BOTH decided to continue the celebrations in a local way at a hall. One was my friend Nikki as she got married in Vegas. They hired a food truck, had salads and pop and we all just sat around and gabbed until the late evening.
The other was another of Mark's cousins. They got married in Ottawa that we unfortunately couldn't attend due to Mark's school trip being neck in neck with the dates. But we were fortunate to celebrate here, where there were family competitions set up from bean bag toss, kite flying to crossword puzzles. We had the added bonus of sitting with the bride and groom so we were set for answers! Plus an ice cream truck! Who can go wrong with that!!!!

Mark is finally done work. Lots of hard work this year, plus he got to go on a school trip to New York and Red Deer. Work but still had fun experiences.
Plus on the homefront, lots of dog walks, market time, gardening, spending time with friends, seeing movies, watching Netflix, AND of course we are expecting our first child this October. SO many big changes ahead!

We will see what the summer brings. From all this hot weather the veggie garden is a growing. Mark may go hiking with a friend of ours and I have a less cardio trip planned with a friend of mine.

Until next time!

rain rain and more rain

it has been a fairly rainy week and i have to say that i love it. it is a little cold but it cleans up the streets, the air smells so fresh and it gives me a great excuse to stay inside on these days i may snuggle under some blankets while watching reruns of so you think you can dance OR do some baking OR do some strenght training OR do some chores OR do all of the above.

it was a busy morning. i dropped mark off at first aid and they advertised the wrong time so we took a small trip to the italian bakery where i found rose water and orange blossom, something i had been looking for for awhile as i have cookbook that uses that quite a bit! so pumped.

did a yoga session. me and my body have really missed it! my hamstrings are tight! especially since half marathon training has commenced. jimi came too. as i was laying on my mat waiting for class to commence, i could hear jimi's car park. love it! thanks for coming jimi-jam! and namaste!

so off to start my lovely rainy day plans! love to you all!

biking

i was determined to bike today.
even though it was raining,
a soft little drizzle.
it didn't look so bad,
until i started to ride.
the rain fell harder,
the wind blew harder,
the gravel seemed more slippery.
i finally made it to the top,
with just five minutes to spare.
then i got a flat tire.
sigh.
hopefully tomorrow will be better.

dear tracey...

won't you come out to play,
dear tracey.
greet the brand new day...
the sun is out, the sky is blue
its beautiful and...

i will stop right there! but in all fun, april welcome back! i have missed you and your sunshine. the snow is finally melting. mark is having the utmost fun playing in puddles (or "getting rid of them"). i feel that i can run outside pretty soon. AND i am just feeling plain ol' happy right now!

the group projects are done. big shout out to both groups. we did awesome (even if no grades are back). i have to admit that i don't usually enjoy group work but when you have really good groups, it is all good! you get to know people, all the strengths come together and the weaknesses never come out (or hopefully not!). BUT they are a lot of work so i am glad to be done!

i have scrapped some photos two nights in a row now. i am almost astonished to see that i have completed our 2009 album in 3 months. it feels great. it was a bit more slack then my usual albums but i will have tons of trips to scrapbook in the near future (i developed all my pics for two hikes and two trips...those should take some time...)

i also have some ambitious goals for the summer. i was thinking that i would like to start biking again to work BUT also train for a half marathon again...that means a lot of workouts. (i hope you are ready for me ice)! and i just bought another punch pass so i am coming for you again hot and hatha yoga!! plus, the west coast trail is on our agenda this summer...hopefully i am not to crabby this time around as we are hiking with company. ;) no guarantees.

i think that is all i am going to say. i am updating my photo blog as we speak...sorry if it bores all of you. it does kind of crack me up on the amount of food pics that we both take. what can i say...we love food!

enjoy this lovely wednesday evening
